Promotoras (Community Health Workers) as partners in research, lessons learned and recommendations
Description: This study examines how promotoras de salud (community health workers) delivered the NHLBI Su Corazón Su Vida heart health program and participated as researchers in urban and rural Latino communities. Training 25 promotoras, the project used their trusted community status to improve outreach, recruitment, and data interpretation, showing the benefits and challenges of integrating promotoras into research to reduce health disparities.
