Contemporary Diabetes Technology and the Patient Experience

Description: This qualitative study explores how modern diabetes technologies such as continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and automated insulin delivery systems affect the daily lives of adults with type 1 diabetes. Analyzing free-text responses from 535 patients in a large academic health system, the researchers found that while these devices often improved safety, glucose control, sleep, and confidence, they also created significant burdens. The authors conclude that diabetes technology shapes much more than blood sugar management, and that making these tools more patient-centered will require attention to design, insurance and replacement systems, sustainability, and cybersecurity.
